nice day out

Recommended Posts

DEL and his brother lindsay, met me at 6:40 as planned, it was dry when i woke up but there was heavy shopwers all day. Not to be put off by the rain we got the waterproofs on and set about it. I had half a day planned and wasn't sure of what to do with the second half, but i knew something would come up.

We ferreted a gorse bush with 50 yards of net either side, we entered six ferrets, 5 jills & a hob. Three rabbits were accounted for. I didnt take any pictures of this set due to the rain.

second set of the day, we had 200 yards of longnet set here, 150 yards surrounded the burrow and a 50yarder went through the middle. Again we had all six ferrets in

we ended up catching 4 rabbits from this set, and a mighty dig

at a guesstimate, this hole was 4 3/4 foot deep. As you can see, DEL is holding lindsay's ankle's while he try's to get to the rabbit

It was about mid-day and we had finished the area we took off to another bit, a long fenceline, that is usually good for about 10 rabbits.

we had 50yard longnets either side of this hedge, we ended up only catching one rabbit out of it, 1 escaped, and another refused to bolt, even with six ferrets in the set

we ferreted right down the hedgerow, and due to a mis-placed longnet, only caught one, we missed about 7 or 8

Ended the day with 9 ferreted rabbits. it was a gruelling task out in the pissing rain with freezing cold hands, but it's good to be getting out again.

cheers DEL & lindsay

one of the beauty's about using the longnets is, when you have a few ferrets roaming about, you needn't worry about them knocking nets.

Also, the ground where i have recently been on with DEL, there has been a LOT of holes in the set's. the set we took four out of, we could have layed about 100 net's, so it was much quicker running 200 yards of net out. and not have to worry about missing the odd bolt hole.

Next weekend, if weather condition's are good, then i have invited DEL and lindsay up for the day. Then when its dark (and if weather conditions are good) we will do a spot of night netting :good:
