Malt 379
excelent stuff mate ! NICE TO SEE SUMMIT A BIT DIFFERANT ! did you hatch them delibarately i take it ? and is there a story behing it at all ?? J.Darcy off here breeds them and sent me a few caterpillars last year. The kids found another EHM caterpillar here on the estate, so we fed it up as well. The kids love feeding them, seeing them grow in size, bury themselves, then turn into cocoons for the winter & emerge as colourful moths this time of year. When the proper camera is charged, I'll put a few more pictures up, then you'll see how vivid the colours are. Here's one that came out last year: The kids found the caterpillar the year before: Cocoon stage: Edited May 14, 2010 by maltenby

J Darcy 5,871
Very nice Malts. Mine have just started to pop out now here. If you get a boy and a girl then try for a pairing. First you will need to feed them and this is easy. In a very shallow dish mix up a bit of honey and water, then forcibly grab the moths hindwings and with your other hand use a needle to uncurl the proboscis and place it in the solution. The moth may not drink at first and you may have to hold the probosis in the solution for a while. However they soon get used to this and will feed avidly after only a short time. Once they have been fed a few times there is a good chance they wil pair and lay eggs. And, hey, dont forget me when the eggs are laid....
