Paid 935
the only lamping permission i have, I got through ferreting there first, people seem a lot more ready to give you ferreting permission, then after taking the dog to these places a few times, and showing you don't cause any dramas, you can say "seems the rabbits are getting wise to the ferreting, we could take quite a few more off here at night with the dog" Quote Link to post
Guest The Shaman
I followed some advice I was given and firmly believe knowledge should be shared. Firstly expect the knockbacks - practically everybody on this site will have had their fare share. I too come from the North East, and I did a fair bit of driving around knocking on doors and putting letters through doors (always put a self addressed stamped envelope in with your letter). Most of the time you wont even get a reply back (even though you have put a stamp on). You will get the knock backs, around me most of the land is owned by a Lord and getting permission to go on it is rarer than rocking horse shite, or has shooting clubs who have the rights, or the area is used for rearing pheasant. But persevere, and always be polite - the farmer who knocks you back now may have a change of circumstances in the future. And when you do get your permission, stick to the conditions the Landowner sets, build up a relationship (without bugging him every other night) and you may get permission also from neighbouring farms etc once they know you are genuine. Good luck Quote Link to post

Guest whitser
can be hard to get permission for lamping cos once farmers hear lurcher they think travellers. first thing you need is insurance most wont touch you without it. i just go knocking on doors with my countryside alliance card and my cute 7 year old daughter. once they see the kid they wont be suspicious of the lad knocking on the door, shrewd. tell them you want permission to hunt rabbits and rats,no one wants rats, during the day and maybe a bit of lamping as well. once you get one farmer in an area mention his name any time you call in somewhere else. some days i'd get 10 no's but perserverence is the key eventually a farner will say yes.
