I do know exactly what you mean! My other dog is a beardy cross and has the double coat . . . i used to strip it but it was like fighting a losing battle, one day about 3 summers ago i was so hacked off with it i just took the horse clippers to her! :clapper:

I clip her out fully now every spring and although her coat has thinned since i've been doing this, when in a long coat she still has enough to protect her from the cover and its actually a lot more manageable. A groomer would say i'm wrong to clip it, but it works for me.

Hi, stripping is a method used to remove the top layer of a dogs coat, mainly for course haired dogs . . borders etc. It can also mean to use a stripping knife on a long haired dog to remove dead/excess hair. I personally tried hand stripping my bitch but her coat as mentioned by RFL is a double coat, courser on top and then a dense softer coat underneath. I decided to clip her completely due to her competing in a variety of dog sports, all of which are held in the summer months. I clip her this time of year and normally again about end of June. By the end of September she is normally back in full coat ready for the winter.
