Starting a pup on RATS.

Recommended Posts

Well firstly its illegal mate so i have to say no its not a good idea. Secondly: why do you want a lurcher to take rats anyway? Thats what terriers are for! Thirdly: rats fight back and at 6 months old your lurcher is just a pup and getting bitten could f**k him right up, he will either shit a brick when he sees a rabbit thinking well those rats f*****g hurt and that c**ts a lot bigger than a rat or he will go in teeth first and crush the rabbit to bits.

i use small lurchers for ratting find them great dogs after all a lurcher is an all round dog and ideal in some situations, ie working wide ditches and water courses the terrier cant jump the gap to the other side by the time its tried the

lurchers got it,also my mate uses a whippet for ratting there aint anything as quick of the mark as that so horses for courses i might add these dogs are not only used for ratting but this is what i enjoy doing and have done for more than 30 years, just remember not everyone has loads of rabbiting permission you take what you can as long as the dogs get a good workout.I start my young dogs out with the other dogs at between 5-6 months just watching whats going on and to learn a bit and let them mess about a bit then when they are about 9-10 mths they will generally start having a go themselves, all dogs are different and come on at stages but its no good having a young dog that aint ready getting its face chomped by a giant rat but they soon learn and are very handy dogs on the ratting so go for it mate  .

cant see why not mate if you think your pup is ready let him have a go but the only thing is when he gets bit he will shake it thats if he does not shit him self and when he gets older he will shake the rabbits probly to bits and there only good for dog or ferret food then but its up to atb
