watchman 256
No cure! just gotta give it time to heal and callas over. i agree, couple months should see it right, but if after this time it continues to come back lame after a run then taking it off may be your next option, have seen dogs get over this with no probs others have been taken off and not affected the dogs ability at all
blackpack 70
5oo many vets jump to the idea of having toe off, i went to good local vet and he put padding and purple tape on broken toe, and to.d me 6 weeks complete rest in house or kennel, then 4 weeks lead walking, dog came fine after the 10 weeks and ran fine and still is, good luck mate
Guest RAB.MCKAY
cheers has any one heard of a substance they inject in to toe , that fuses it
bolio 51
That's a type of cement that sets to keep the toe rigid but it needs the ligament to be intact to hold it in place. I had a saluki greyhound bitch in the early 90's that knocked up a toe in her hind nearside foot. the ligament had snapped and every time she put pressure on it turning, the unsupported joint would over flex and pop out through the skin. Vet couldn't cement it as it was more or less punctured, would have just ran out before setting. Gerry S. is your man. He's back practicing again in Lurgan. Or Jones in Newry is a very good greyhound vet. P.S. I think I hunted with your dad and grandfather before you were born!!! Edited March 27, 2010 by bolio
fresh earth 47
just have it of from whatever joint before the break will be healed and running again before the dog would be out the kennel if left to heal its self.

greyhoundstud 38
Usually just rest but it is essential that the supporting ligaments are not damaged otherwise the joint will keep popping out.If the dog is just used for lurcher work it usually isnt a problem and the toe will generally heal well with strappings
