Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Took Hywel out for a stalk Sunday afternoon to try for a follower .He arrived as planned at 2pm and we drove to a place of mine that i was certain would fulfill the need.Stalked into the wind and towards the left of the permission as i knew from experience that the wind would be slightly different over the top .Got to the tast field on the top and saw a buck and doe lead down over the hedge. They saw us too and were up and gone, not that i would of taken the doe this late in the season with a buck in tow .Anyway to cut a long story short we stalked the whole 800 acres plus without seeing another deer.Sheep had been flooding the land very recently and im sure this is what has driven the deer off to neighbouring land . On the way around the bottem fields i spotted a fox out opposite us and a good way out ,roughly just under 200 from us i think .I was on the bipod with no hurry as he was intent on something in the grass and ignored a squeak totally .Let fly from where i was and charlie flopped over to spin around on the spot .I could see through the bins he wasnt going anywhere and he exspired shortly afterwards . He was the other side of a stream and not thinking i decided to jump over and retrieve him .Misjudging the take off i landed 3/4 the way over and up to the waist :icon_redface:Scrambled out and got the fox ,a dog shot through the chest /middle .It was then i remembered the bridge a bit further on so came back over the dryer route .Emptied the wellies and squelched on 1 Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
Good do guys - went for a spot of fishing as well by the looks of things. You were unlucky with the deer Hywel but thats stalking , they are about in numbers on that ground. I bet if you'd gone out after rabbits with a rimfire you'd have been bumping them at every corner always good to get out though Good shot on the fox Quote Link to post
