kill um with crisps 7
The dog should just work it out by itself mate. In the open no a little terrier hasnt got a chance of catching a healthy rabbit. Where the terriers stand the best chance is if the rabbits are in the bushes and the terriers go in after them. Even then you will see more bolting unchallenged than hanging from your dogs cake hole! The way to sort the bolting rabbits is to use either a shotgun or best of all a lurcher. When i first got my beagle x at 10 months old he didnt have a clue, i tried everything to get it thruough his noggin too including creeping from bush to bush stalking the rabbits holding his coller and running at them. He just ran about in circles confused! Lol! Then one day i went shooting, did a few rabbits in the head with my 22 then walked the dog round the field and he "found" them. Plenty of praise and a few rabbit tugs o war later he is an absolute demon on the rabbits! Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Show him a captured rabbit in a live capture trap, that'll get him going! Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
Try and get it out with other bushing dogs and keep away from badger setts as you never know Quote Link to post
zachrussell 1
So if i just let her on the land and let her do her own thing it wont work? How do you get terriers catching rabbits then? Quote Link to post
goldfinch2007 2,337
dont worry mate its a terrier, itll figure it out Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
they might catch the odd one but the idea of bushing is to push the quarry to gun/lurcher. get her out(preferably with bushing terriers) and let her learn by herself. the shooting of rabbit is always a good thing(if i get in the bushes/cover i get quarry, light goes on). good fun.
