Cheers everyone, I have been out for the past two or more seasons with two of my friends fairly regular (both have open tickets and pocess .243 and .308), maybe a couple of dozen time or more.

The land is a south facing valley bordering on a small stream next to woodland, most of it is downward shooting on to mixed broadleaf woodland with no footpaths or nearby tracks and we know the owners.

I will be taking a mentor with me if thats what you want to call him, I call him allsorts  .

Some of you sounded quite negative is this usuall?

Not meant to be negative mate, just cautious. You're obviously a sensible guy but there are some total dickheads out there who could cause problems for the level-headed majority. If you get your written request from your landowner you should be ok for .243 for deer, perhaps subject to a mentoring condition (as Jamie says, that is up to your FEO, ie in the lap of the gods). You will need a bigger gun for boar but you may as well ask for it now!

ATB & keep us posted.

Err . . . 100 acres of hay fields surrounded by woodlands? Doesn't sound very hilly to me.

Jamie, fair comment but going from HMR to .243? Surely likely to get a mentor condition whatever you're shooting at?

...6.5 calibre minimum, for boar velocity require...

Sorry Clint, it's 7mm or .270 minimum.

page 77

Page 77 refers you to paragraph 13.25 which I have pasted below:

13.25 Authority may be requested to shoot

animals which fall outside the scope of usual

types of game or vermin, for example feral

goat or wild boar. The type of rifle

authorised should be appropriate to the

quarry species, for example .270, .30-06 or

.308 or greater for wild boar.

Hope this helps.
