Magpies and Larsen Traps

Hi all,

New on here but always willing to learn.

I was reading the other day that when using a Larsen Trap to trap Magpies you should put a magpie from another location into the trap as live bait.

Question. bearing in mind my opening statement. Where do you get the first magpie from?

it can take some time to nab the first one but once you do just make sure to keep him well fed and watered

if you ask around the locality someone might have a spare bird to get you started off.

you could try putting a decoy in the larsen trap and maybe 1 or 2 around it. Ive heard of people putting a shot crow/magpie into attract a call bird, it does work but its not as effective as a real call bird though. ATB
