ferreterno1 0
i have noticed that whenever i feed pheseants to my ferrets it goes straight through them, has anyone else noticed this, a mate of mine said there very ritch, he said they go straight through his dogs as well so he stopped feeding them. let me know what you think Quote Link to post
doddsy1970 9
Pheasants that have been reared and to some extent wild ones which are drawn into the feeders are fed on corn which contains medicine this medicine could be causing the ferrets digestive problems. I'm not saying it is the cause but it is food for thought if you excuse the pun. Quote Link to post
ferreterno1 0
i also feed them on culled racing pigeons that didnt make the grade, there fed well and given all sorts of medicines, but there fine on them Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,894
Pellets are medicated and pheasants should be long off them and onto wheat by now. Like has been said elsewhere its that they are rich although ive never found a problem with it. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Most strange! Surely though, saying pheasent is 'Rich' is as subjective as saying rabbits are 'Gamey' ? Personally, I've never fed a ferret pheasent, nor know anyone who has. (Bugger wasting pheaents on ferrets! ) Were these fresh dead birds, or 'Well Hung', like me ? (Oh; OK. The only thing 'Well Hung' about me is the smell! ..... Now, where's that Trill got to? ) Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,894
Personally i give the ferrets the pheasants and eat the rabbits and pigeons meself, i think longtails are horrible. The keeper here thinks im daft with what i feed my ferrets saying i should take it the butchers and swap it for steak. Don't like steak either though Quote Link to post
ferreterno1 0
no as i said they only get it when its road kill, so its fresh Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
I feed pheasents the odd time, they love it and have had no probs what so ever, but the pheasents are totally wild, most of the time over here. Frank. Quote Link to post
gibby 0
I've fed pheasant before with no noticeable problems. I find that they particularly like the neck meat! I also give my ferrets fresh quail occasionaly too, I think its a similar "richness". (Edited to add that the quail I feed is bred in captivity as hawk food.)
