Cold Ethyl 63
Long story short my dog has went from being fit as hell to having a grade 2 heart murmer. He kept getting fluid in his lungs and completley collapsing and being unconcious.Theyve been at it for months and no vet seems to have a clue whats actually wrong hes been x rayed and scanned and due again had egs etc.Bloods urine fecal tests the whole lot.Theyve now prescribed pb as it could be a fit apparently although im not convinced.Ive been informed by a friend lurchers cant take pb as it doesnt disperse properly in there body cos of the lack of body fat anyone now too scared to give him the pills and theyve got him on steroids and no exercise been like this for ages the dogs not well at all and is very down hes never been kept in
Dawn B 212
Does he cough before he collapses? Grade 2 murmur is nothing, its VERY unlikely he would ever suffer ill effects from it. Could he have lung worms?
Cold Ethyl 63
Lung worm and heart worm have both been ruled out i did him with advocate and they also gave him panacur. He coughs every now and then not necassarily before he passes out he does bring up bile.So they tested for addisons but thats came clear 5 times now even an atch test showed f all but she wont fecking listen keep trying to tell her lurchers are different to other dogs.Found out pb isnt really that suitable and the doses she put him on are sky high and may cause all the side effects that are symptoms of whats happening to him at the moment. He gets very vacant disorientated walks into the furniture and then bang hes on the floor. He cannot handle a half hour walk and its not much of a life for a 1rst cross saluki/greyhound to be stuck indoors permanantly.I dont want to lose him but its not looking very good for him at all
sandymere 8,263
Firstly sorry but I'm sure your considering how olds the dog and whats it's quality of life. The absence and collapse definatly sound like seizures so phenobarbital may manage the symptoms but it's definatly a balancing act to get an appropriate dose, how about discussing with your vet a trail on half dose to monitor symptom control, dosed on body weight. I take it the dog has good liver and kidney function? The fluid on the lung and a murmur could be suggestive of a heart problem, is the fluid white /pink frothy? Again sorry I seem to be asking more questions than answering. Good luck s
Cold Ethyl 63
He coughs up frothy blood sometimes. From what ive read not impressed with pb at all.Hes been getting a small walk once a day recently cos hes bored and its no life for a young dog to be stuck in all the time.He isnt evn 3 yet will be 3 in june.Ive been through this with the vet more than once as to the fact a half saluki has no life if it cant exercise and have a run ffs thats what theyre born to do.Vets are taking guesses and not convinced theyre right.Ive had epileptic dogs and dogs who took fits and im pretty sure its not a type of fit not that im a vet though.Hes changed a lot in his attitude and its clear to me why.Hence why i started taking him out more again.Theyre saying he will never be allowed to run again and should only be going out to the toilet and back hes wrecking the house again so has to be left in a crate if i go out something hes not used to either unless flints in season. Its stressing her and the other dog i foster and the kids as well.So not sure whats for the best tbh i think i know but keep second guessing myself. The vet made a comment about us lurcher people lol and told me the perils of fox hunting with dogs and said not that im saying you do it just its good to know?Hes went from a dog that can run like the f*****g wind and healthy and fit as hell to a wreck thats went grey and looks old and done in almost overnight
sandymere 8,263
Email sent. regards n Edit Reply came back as it being relatively lipid insoluble so body composition should not have too much impact. (greyhound types have low body fat so fat soluble medications give stronger results). Edited February 19, 2010 by sandymere
