new to ferreting

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Im new to ferreting, ive been once many years ago and wish to take it up. im aware that you have to have a large hutch to house them.

What else do you need???? im looking at getting them first and handling them before getting the gear needed to go out with them.

Also what is the difference between a jill, hop etc :censored: and what is a jill , hop etc. Yes i know i really green.

You can find out most of this stuff by having a search on this forum. With regards to what gear you will need there is a very handy post in the frequently asked questions section which gives a very good general kit list.

A Jill is a female ferret and a Hob is a male ferret. The differences are (apart from the obvious) that hobs usually grow larger and can be more aggressive (not to you if handled). Most people use jills and a pair of jills is a very good place to start. Many people do use hobs very successfully for ferreting, including castrated and vascectimised hobs.
