hello my name is dan im new to forums soo you will have to bear with me ive been reading this book called ferreting an essential guide and ive got my self a pair of ferrets(a hob and a jill havent named them yet) i got a small permission and went on my first ferreting trip i laid the nets and put my jill to ground first waited about five minutes and then out came a rabbit into the net but no jill just as i was dispatching the rabbit out came another one soo i jumped onto it and took care of it but still no jill so i waited to see if there was anymore to follow and nothing soo i waited about half hour more with my heart thudering thinking o god ive lost my ferret and she appeard soo i walked over to pick her up and she runs down another hole(bl**dy great i was thinking) and soo i waited another ten minutes and she appeared and let me pick her up i didnt use my hob as i thought she cleared it all but now i think about it do you think there was one or two more giving her the run around?

thank you for reading and i have had a great time today and well i think im caught on ferreting

good first post mate locator's the way forward, i wouldn't worry too much about the odd one left in, with experience you'll get to know your ferrets working style and abilities at least with a locator it will give you confidence, and you can see then if the ferret is moving lots, being given the run about, or has one in a stop end/killed.

there was probably another in or two she did well just doing her job working the set as you say the rabbit could be giving her the runaround as they do and sometimes the ferrets end up not finding them and coming out well done

thank you for your replys and just one more qestion how often should i go back and ferret the same warren

you'll normally find it takes a month or so, before rabbits move back to a warren, keep a check on your jill, she may well come into season, and then your hob wont do much work if you put them both down a warren, he'll be looking for love
