Permission to hunt?

Recommended Posts

Well I'm not sure what to expect in the way of help, but here we go :) .

I have come back to air guns after a 35 year break and things have changed  back then I used to find the odd farmer who would let me hunt a few Rats, Woodies and Bunnies, where are they now I wonder :hmm: .

How the hell do you lads find somewhere to hunt these days, please, please help put me on the road to finding permission if you can, you know, the how, where who or what I need to find somewhere  .

If someone can give me an idea of how to go about finding permission to hunt, then please do so, my gun is collecting dust

I look forward to your response on this one

get knocking mate and be sure to point out all the damage the rabbits are doing etc a bit like "hi my name is pcplod i am wondering if anybody does any vermin control on your land just as i see there is a lot of your crops being eaten by rabbits and was wondering if i could get rid for you " then he may say no do 1 you little scroat before i shoot you lol or yeah no prob whats your number etc and give me a ring when you are comming down etc

i find it a lot easier to get permission when you have permission as you can name other places you shoot etc

Pc Plod are you a real police man by the way?Would have thought farmers would trust a policeman and let you on no problem, you would have an advantage over the rest of us hunters, not having a knock at you or anything, but my advice is you have to knock on doors like the rest of us and gain the trust of the landowner/farmer as there is no other way, except perhaps by way of friends recommedations and invites until you are trusted, then word of mouth will do the rest, good luck finding permission anyway

No I'm not a real copper! I just picked that user name because my initials are PC and at school(many years ago) the kids called pc plod for a bit of fun. I'm afraid I have no advantage over you chaps!, shame that!, maybe I should join up just to get hunting permission

I would be interested to hear your technique when knocking on doors :hmm: it seems a delicate subject to approach when asking a stranger if they would allow you to go on their land with an air rifle :icon_eek:

mmmmmm, very strange name to pick on a hunting site. especially with us being watched by the anti's, filth, and rspca etc.... i think commonsense would prevail here, that knocking is the only way to get permission....knocking for a month is nothing... You should be knocking all your life....

Yes I agree about the name, I have had nothing to do with hunting for some 35 years and this was the first forum I joined, I went for the user name just because it was the first thing that came to mind and I was eager to join having just got my new rifle and didn't give it enough thought :icon_redface:. I don't know if I can/should change it or leave it in the hope that people will get to know that I am not a copper. What do you lads on this forum think? :hmm:

TBH mate, if thats the name you want then keep it....who gives a sh*t!

I for one don't have a problem with police being on the site as I have nothing to hide. At the end of the day in my eyes those that give the grief should expect grief back!

As for knocking mate, just keep at it..... I lost all my permissions to paying syndicates who pay £200 a year for 5 shoots, something I can't justify so I gave up hunting sold all my gear and took up photography. It wasn't until my cuz (Festa)met with Zini and I was invited to shoot on his permission that I went and bought another rifle.

I then set about visiting all sorts of places and now have enough land to keep us going....

So....keep at it mate...it will come!!

I tihnk you should change it, then stop asking what everyone else thinks, lol. i bet you do your wifes head in.... be assertive pal... imagine if you asked your mate, "should i shot it or what, what do you think" be brave pal, just do it...

Point taken :D

You could knock some flyers up Plod! fill in all the relevent details on how responsible you are and obviously you only want to shoot Vermin and get them sent out to the Landowners, there's been a good few flyers printed up on this site in the past if you can find them, also joining the BASC might help to show you have some cover...

I'm a bit lucky as in the past I would contact a landowner asking to fly birds at Rooks/Crows/Pigeons/Rabbits and general Vermin, I would normaly get a favourible response expecially if they come out to see the bird fly the quarry mentioned above, after a while when I have won their trust I'll then ask if there is any chance of bringing a gun on the land!! 99% of the time this way has been succesfull......
