hi all,

my mate has given up shooting now,so he gave me his o/u shotgun,so i thought i would try it out but it doesnt fit me,whats the best way to get it to fit me as i really want to get to use it?

do i go to a gun shop,or are there products on the market to add to the gun?

it feels to short from the butt end to the trigger,also i have to really bend my neck to look straight up the barrel,

any advice would really help me.

gun fit is very important,without seeing you hold it far to much could be wrong i would go to gun shop for fitting,it may be the case to much needs doing and might not be worth your while :thumbs:and yes there are many products on the market but unless you are 100% in what you require then gun shop will know best

thanks for that watchman jolly decent of you,ive seen them pads that go on the end of the butt,if i was to put one of those on would that then raise the look up the barrel?or does it not work like that.

how much would i be exspected to pay at the shop for the fitting?

as i said mate,really need a head on photo with the gun mounted to be able to give you accurate info,the comb will determine where your looking along the barrel,this can be raised with an added pad,gun shops have a fitting service and all the relevant parts of the TRY GUN are adjustable,things to consider will be,bend of stock,lenth of stock to front of trigger cast off,cast on ect all a bit vague but theres more to gun fit than meets the eye

30 years ago I had a gun that did not seem to fit right so I put a spacer on the end which got me looking down the barrel if you see what I mean, I have used it ever since and never got round to smoothing it off either. Ah well it suits me and it feels comfortable.

I am not saying dont get it fitted to you at a gunsmiths, this is my story and it worked for me.

30 years ago I had a gun that did not seem to fit right so I put a spacer on the end which got me looking down the barrel if you see what I mean, I have used it ever since and never got round to smoothing it off either. Ah well it suits me and it feels comfortable.

I am not saying dont get it fitted to you at a gunsmiths, this is my story and it worked for me.

if its a good fix then no problem,im just saying,my old man gave me a shot gun he owned for over forty years,because the comb was to high the gun was totally useless ie i was looking down onto the barrels,to have it made to fit was not a viable option and therefor good for f**k all and was part ex for a good fitting one thats all im saying

you will find that a young man will fit the gun(not sure how old you are or how bad the fit).

your finger should be on the trigger when the butt is in your elbow if that makes sense?? i have found that most guns are ok for me( average build around six feet tall)and in fact on feather that a shorter stock is better.

have you tried the gun on clay? i would give it a go first if not. gun fitting can be expensive and as said above you may be better off part ex for a better fitting gun.
