J Darcy 5,871
Canon 50D is a good one to get. But i do really rate the Nikons too. If i were to start all over again i would perhaps have a look at both of those makes and make a decision. To be perfectly frank, i think Nikon give better colours..... DO NOT buy from the cheepest internet sites, you could get ripped off.DO NOT buy from Simply Electronics either.....THEY TELL LIES!! If you have to pay a few quid extra from a shop then so be it.... but, that's JMO...JD p.s, then you have to start on the lenses!!

BULLDOUG 199
IMO Canon make a better body but Nikon make the better lens, these differences are small but if your a novice i wouldnt be spending 700 on a body as it really isnt needed. I brought a Canon 1000d and still havnt learned its full value, i can buy lenses for this that can last me a life time and be used on any camera in the future. As said the body it the cheap bit, its the lenses that are expensive. But as JD has mentioned the 50d is a great camera for the pro.

Lerk 0
Even look at second hand bodies and save the majority of your £700 for glass, if you are confident that you'll stick with canon/nikon etc. you can buy the lens once and use it again and again (if you look after it) as your skill increases and you upgrade bodies - a £2000 camera will produce no better images than a £100 one when fitted with a £50 lens!!! J Darcy 5,871
Personally i woudlnt buy second hand camera gear. Once bitten and all that....
mwncidur 0
I am a Canon user, and choosing a new camera is a nightmare. As others have said, the best bet is to go to a decent camera shop and get hands on. Once you buy your body then get saving for glass I must however admit that i am considering a swap to Nikon I have been using a mates Nikon for a while and really like it . Kay 3,709
I would simply buy either a new canon or nikon bundle from somewhere like Jessops , for £ 700 you will probably get a 1000d or even the next body up & a lens & memory card for that , depending on whats on offer right now Like JD i wouldnt buy secondhand or re conditioned off the net , i got stung with a pile of shite last year , and be wary about buying seemingly new lens in the future off places like e bay as there low prices probably mean there re cons I wouldnt by any camera or equipment off the net again
