Couple of Decoying photos

Went out today after pigeons following yesterdays success. Not such great results in quantity, I think yesterday spooked them, but four shots produced four dead pigeons! I was pretty chuffed at that as the pigeon waves of yesterday had turned in to a ripple.

 

In answer to billybroon, with a measly two photos due to battery failure (moron,) I spread the decoys with a gap of about 1.5 - 2 meters between them using 3 at the side of the back of the pattern closest to the hide, to look like closely bunched pigeons together, feeding in the same area (see photo). I don't know if it makes a difference but the theory goes that others will follow suit, then POP!

 

The one thing I would recommend, is that if you are shooting in open ground without the bonus of sitty trees, get some full bodied decoys, I think that half the reason I don't get that many landing is that as they get to about 3 ft off the ground, they see the ground underneath the shells and take evasive action!

First photo is my hide, underneath a sitty tree, the second is my decoy pattern but I don't know if this has come out that well!

Good stuff mate, I have been at the pigeons, not decoying just sitting in my hide waiting for them to land in a busy tree.

However looking at some of this I think I may try decoying... The other day I got to my hide and there was about 100 pigeons in the tree

but soon as they saw me at about 100 yards the bailed. Waited about 2 hours and not one landed so I need to stamp out the bad luck and make them

come to me! That first photo are you taking that picture while IN your hide, or is its under one of those trees in the distance?

One thing to try on woody decoy's is to use an Ultraviolate security marker on their backs, shell of full bodied deek's

 

Seems to work a treat according to a few people I know and Steve Price was the one who I first heard of this technique from. He uses it to great effect

 

I haven't tried it yet; as I have no woody deek's but I am thinking of getting some very soon.

PS don't use it on corvid deeks!! It's guarenteed to scare the corvids off if you use ultraviolate on them.!
