The New CZ American

Recommended Posts

Bit of a saga to this but got there in the end!

The wood is actually not bad, much better than it looks in the pictures. I have had the barrel chopped from 22.5 inches to 19" (don't ask, that's what I wanted), SAK fitted, after trials with several mods this is as good as any and a sensible price.

Been playing with the trigger and the Brooks kit, had the 1.25lb trigger spring to start with but this is a little too light for me in the field so have gone a bit heavier. Nothing wrong with the 1.25lb spring as long as you are careful, but I have a lot of rifles and this is just a bit too light for me swapping guns all the time! I have to admit the Brooks kit really does transform the gun for a modest outlay! I have done my CZ HMR historically (which really was like 40 grit sandpaper grating for a fortnight on the pull) and now the WMR which just grated and had a long pull. Strangely my CZ .22lr has always been fine, admittedly not as good as either the HMR or WMR now, but perfectly acceptable!

Happy enough now and grouping well in early trials with assorted ammo.....Oh yes, found some dusty old Remington 33g V-Max, the last box the guy had, yet to try them but they sound interesting, I hope they perform better than the Hornady 30g V-Max. Knowing my luck they will be excellent but I'll never be able to find anymore!

As I recsll, you had problems with the accuracy of the Hornady 30gr. Have you checked the twist rate of your WMR rifle? A rate that stabilises 40gr OK could still be too fast for 30gr. All a bit academic I know but it's good to check out the facts!

Not too much of an issue with these Ric as the ammo is still relatively slow, 2200 at best at the muzzle. The CCI 30g and 40g both work well, as did Winchester and Remington with assorted weights between 30-40g. I now have some Remington V-Max, 3 types of CCI and the Hornady to properly evaluate in the new gun!

Preliminary results are good, but in this appalling weather I'm not spending too much time prone in the snow zeroing.

Good point though and too be honest I don't know the twist rate of this CZ American WMR. Need to do some digging!
