fitchet 788 Posted December 17, 2009 Report Share Posted December 17, 2009 hi lads n lasses ive been thinking for a long time about training my rabbiting dog for gate netting he is a good ferreting dog and respects the longnet and i have been offerd a good price for netted hares so how do you train a dog to sweep a field of game ? i tried him befre and he managed to to get 3 rabbits but since that zilch can anyone help Quote Link to post
birddog 1,354 Posted December 17, 2009 Report Share Posted December 17, 2009 i think a lot of it is in the breeding, but if he hunts and quarters the ground in front of you and is obedient your half way there. a lot of it is bushcraft which runs are used regular what way is the wind blowing. i try and use fields wi dykes round them and a mate to work the dog or guard the net helps. my current collie cross got the outrun by my mate holding her at the net whilst i walked up the side of the feild before he slipped her to me i then quartered the ground with her shes still not spot on but time patience and practise will all help. hope this helps good luck Quote Link to post
fitchet 788 Posted December 17, 2009 Author Report Share Posted December 17, 2009 cheers mate these are rabbit proof fenced places and ive had a couple of hares of here before with me old lurcher.he is very well trained and obediant and grew up bushing and using his nose and done well in the beating line when he was younger so no probs there the only problem is i longnet/gatenet at night alone usually any other tactics ?
