Bit of training with the Lab Pup

Recommended Posts

Had the Lab pup bushing with the Terriers, Lurchers and a GWP with Pointer of this site early this morn  I no i shouldnt but she is a real keen little thing in cover and at only 20.5 " hunts like a spaniel and is starting to put Vermin out for the Lurchers as good as a Terrier, So not the usual Lab i hear people saying, well no.

Any way gave her a few hours rest and had a walk out the back field for some proper training.

Thanks allot for the replies Lads.

I am really chuft with the way she is coming on and how hard she hunts, she is maturing into a great Rough shooting dog.

Her Sire (Cardy Keas of Shadowbrae) has just been made up to FTC :toast: and her Dam is running at Norfolk soon i think, so Fern is a bit wasted on me, but i am happy enough with a good Rough shooting and Vermin dog.

Thats one nice looking Lab 6pointer, is it mainly stalking you do with her and how do you find her for stalking against a GWP or GSP.

Dave.

Thanks mate, she is very much multi purpose, has all her bird duties, butshines as a stalking companion.

Think the HPR's are more specialists, whirehairs being the masters when it comes to deer work

although others will disagree im sure

Here she is at work

Real bonnie pup there 6pointer.

Stalking is something i really fancy getting into but i am so busy with all my other shooting at the minuet.

I am thinking of getting my FAC to keep a few foxes down on the lamp, so i suppose stalking would be the next step from there.

2 pups out of my Ferns litter went to Scotland as stalkers dogs and her mother is used as well, but by the time i get round to it i may have missed my window with her but she dose pick things up real quick so you never know.

Think you could be suprised how old you can enter them to deer,as long as the dog is obedient, prepared to stay for long periods etc a down side to labs is they are not all prepared to mix it if they have to..

Kim has it all in front of her ,but she was bred for the job so her's hopeing :)
