Guest Frank
I have a CZ .223 and here are some results with said rifle. Mainly using Federal American eagle 50 grain hallow point factory ammo. More pics below, including the ammo. Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Frank; Where do you aim for with that thing, mate? What range? And have you a seperate lamp or what? (Like; How do ye see the target ). Cheers, mate. Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
My lamping set up DS, below, shows how i get the lamp on the scope, its a Light Force scope mounted lamp. I usually aim for the boiler room (heart and lung area) for a humane 1 shot kill. In certain situations and if im close to the fox, i aim for the brain. As for range, i try and keep it to 200yds and less whilst lamping, longer in the day time, up to 300yds, as usally you can see what your doing better. Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Body shots at 2/300 yards?! I see. So a .223 is a considerably differant animal from a .22 then! Centre Fire, I take it? Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Yes Ds, its a centerfire, way more powerfull then a .22 lr. Which is a rimfire. .22 lr is good for brain shots at 50 yds and under, if you are confident with your shooting. I must mention the difference. Centerfire: pin strikes the center of the primer at the bottom of the case. Rimfire: Strikes the edge of the case and anwhere on the edge. Centerfire ammo can be reloaded, rimfire cant. Here is a link below explaining everything: http://www.answers.com/topic/rimfire-ammunition Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Thanks again, Frank. Learning all the time. What I'm thinking then is I'll apply for a .22 Rimmy lisence. 200 yard + is simply beyond my experiance and I don't know how I'd get on at it. I don't want to have to spend a life time on the ranges finding out before I get some work done either. A man's got to know his limitations! Now, one more thing; I once saw a discussion of The Big Fish's place. Someone there mentioned the hellish richochettes from sub sonic rounds through a .22 Rim? I'd hope to be firing down into a land basin. Can't go far wrong doing that as there's nothing alive down there but what I'd be after and the houses are up on the rim. However, we have soft, bog ground here and it's full of large stones. Sounds like a perfect recipe to make myself seem under enemy fire! What's the craic there, mate? Any in put, please? I want to Know what I'm talking about when the Gard 'helps' me fill out that application! Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
.22 subs are prone to richochettes, unfortunately, but, if you have a safe soft back stop, firing into a bank, you should be fine. As for the guard helping you fill out the appllication, most just ask you questions about your self, where you live, where you lived before where you live now, your occupation, have you any other firearms, age, usual shit, ect and fill in the form whilst your stood their at the desk. I belive you were told that applications wont being prosessed yet by the guard, well this is utter crap, dont listen to that, this is the best time to applly. Dont take any rubbish, although, you would have better back up if you could join your local gun club, as this will get you a memebership with the N.A.R.G.C, which is a bit like the B.A.S.C over in the Uk. Link to N.A.R.G.C below, they will help you a lot with your application if your a member : http://www.nargc.ie/ Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
I'm being stone walled by one local Gun Club, Frank. They have taken on a lot of members lately - this I have from a neutral source. But they're also said to have a central few who consider they Are 'The Club'. They keep the majority of the membership pretty much in the dark and invite themselves only to what ever they have going on. I was promised it'd be asked if they could slip me in - then told I'd be called back ..... weeks ago Now I hear there are other clubs around me. One's been mentioned by name and reccomended. But, again, it's down to my informant getting me a number to ring. And, let's face it; In Ireland no body rushes. I'm just starting to get anxious. A Member here suggested His club would take me in. Only that's the other side of the county from me. Would the Gardai swallow that? Mheanwhile, I'm checking out Gun Cabinets. I figure it can't hurt my case to smile and say, 'But of course! I have one fitted at home .....' Finally; Seeing as I can't use my air rifle, even if I got a lisence for it and shipped it over, I'll be selling it. BSA Lightening, telescopics, lazer, rigid plastic case. Less than 300 shots through it. Set me back 400 pounds. I'm wondering if I might raise enough from that set up to get me a basic, second hand CZ .22 Rimmie ~ like what we touched on that time? I'm resigned to the fact that they wouldn't let me leap from .22 Air to .223 Centre. But surely a rimfire??? Incidentaly; The desk Gard said, for a rifle, they'd want at least acres of nominated land. I believe I have More than that available. Figure that - and my stated profession - puts me in with a justified and warrentable reason for owning the damn thing. I take it I can't just join NARGC direct? Circumvent these prima donnas? Guest Ditch_Shitter
Yeah, cheers, mate. Asked that same guy about this other gun club tonight. Said he could probably find out for me - exactly what he said a week ago. Dead f***ing end. Mentioned this to my mate the Taxi tonight. He said he'd make enquiries. He seems a better bet. Hey ho. Ever 'onwards'. (Total f***ing inertia sounds more like it! ) Quote Link to post
