Guest baldie
My little old terrier is recovering at the vets tonight. She had a large lump under her back tit, and smaller ones forming on the others.Had a consultation the other night, as i was very worried about an op, as she is 11, or maybe 12 years old, but very sprightly and fit, if not a little fat.I,ve put it off, but talked to the vet.No problem he says, i,ll remove them, with an x ray first, to see if there is anything in her lungs caused by these growths [cancer] 19 pounds for a chat.£500 for the op. I took her in this morning, and they rang me an hour later. The vet, informs me, he,s had a better look, and both sides [ 8 teats] need doing, which i already knew, but he now cant do them all at once, because it will be hard healing for the dog, with a big cut on both sides, which was fair comment, so he,s done one full side today, and wants to do the other side in 6 weeks, but its gonna be another £500 £1000 for a pet, i must be fecking mad bugger it, its only money, you cant put a price on a loyal pal, i,m just glad i,ve still got her.Vets should wear masks, the first thing they say at mine is "is it insured"? so they can put a bit more on the bill, if it wasnt for the fact they do a 24 hour emergency service [which i,ve had to use more than one] i,d piss them off. Guest Ditch_Shitter
Good for you, mate. Glad you had that sort of clout available when the time came to call it ~ though I expect it'll still leave ye more screwed that the bitch, eh?! Must admit, sitting here at the keyboard, I'm tending to ponder on what the later outcome will be ..... But, saying that, f*** it: I know and you know that, if it were my bitch? I'd sell everything around me to get her the very best of what ever f***ing treatment she needed, just to have her here that precious bit longer. Why do we do it? Love, mate. Simple as that and f*** any stupid c*** who wants to start giving it large about " They're only working tools ".
Guest Dillon
A lot of that rings true with me too Baldie, my bitch that I keep at my mothers (13yrs old now) had a big operation for various reasons at the age of six, there was no way I was putting her down like a lot told me too, she had been way too loyal and way too honest for me to do that, 7yrs ago and that was nearly 700 quid, glad you are fixing her up mate, they don't half stripe you up though do they, the vets really really take the piss, my neice is going to be studying to be a vet, thank feck, might just open a surgery for her when she qualifies
Guest baldie
Dont get me wrong fella,s i wouldnt throw money at a dog that was buggered, i,d do the decent thing, the little bitch is bloody amazing for her age, bounces up and down like a pup, she isnt grey, and her eyesight and hearing, are A1. She is unspayed, and i,ve never bred her, as she didnt make the grade , workwise. This is whats cause the mammory gland tumours apparently.I personally think, she has another 5 years of quality life yet, at least i hope so. I,m probarbly being a little selfish too, i can sleep at night now, knowing i,ve done the best i could for the dog.

I spent a good amount on my fella a few years ago, it never crossed my mind to do owt else. What you need is a good walk out excersising hounds to clear your mind. The lads have been asking after you.

Dawn B 212
Good on you Baldie. I know how you feel, I had similar feelings a few weeks ago. My 13yr old Border developed acute Hepatitis, he was doing really well, but then contracted Pancreatitis and the Vets could not control the pain and I had to have him PTS. Bill? £1622.20, what else could I do for a dog that had worked for me for 11 yrs of his life? he was giving his for me every time he went below ground. Hope your bitch make s afull recovery. Dawn. Guest baco
Good on you mate.I know loads of lads who would have shot her or let her suffer.my bitch got a broken leg when she was about 6 month old. After just 2 visits (one to fix it,the other to take off the dressing)the bill was £550.Its not about the money but how can they justify that kind of price. The thing that gets to me is because i work i have to pay,if i was on the dole i could take it to the p.d.s.a get it treated no questions asked. Guest baldie
I know what you mean buddy, earning the money, and paying the bill has never bothered me, its part and parcel of responsible dog owning, its knowing full well, i,m having my pants pulled down than grips my shit. I,m sure they think its monopoly money sometimes, and i dont think they realise that £1000 is 3-4 weeks wages to some folk. Rolf Harris has a lot to answer for. Thanks for the good wishes folks. Good for you Baldie. I lost my old lurcher bitch this year with same thing. Decided not to have surgery to remove tumours as the old girl was 15 with a dodgy ticker when diagnosed and she may not have survived the operation. Put her on medication, Metacam, which has recently been found to have some relevance in treating mammary tumours, heart pills etc. cost a fortune but quality of life was very good, when she started going downhill, at 16 years had her put to sleep. She was worth every penny.
