Hi all, this is my first post on here and i'm looking for help and advice. My Labrador is due to give birth again at the end of this month, however, we have recently noticed that we have a stoat infestation in our tack room which will double as the whelping box. We have a few concerns, the main one being that if we can not solve this problem before the pups arrive, is a stoat likely to kill, harm or attack the pups? Also, does anybody know if they carry any disease that may cause us a problem? And the most important question of all...... apart from locking the cat in there over night, how can we get rid of them for good??

Would be grateful for hear about any experiences, advice or comments.

Thanks.

i dont think stoats carry disease i may be wrong the way to get rid is to set a few mk4 fenn traps with tunnels on top to stopped untargeted species being caught in the trap or better yet if its possible move the whelping box and it is possible the stoats will kill the pups

Thanks for the advice gonna try the traps, I've read that eggs or fresh meat is best bate.... any other suggestions? With regard to moving the whelping box as a last resort we'll bring her home to have the pups, did it last year, but soon realised how small our house was.

Hi,

Re-Stoats, i now someone who use to trap them and the bait he used was dead mice but the fresher the better he had a good supply of mice and renewed them ever day in late evening, as for disease dont know, i know they will eat eggs but there main quarry is rabbits, but they would kill your pups for food if they get a chance, best of luck mate.

i think some of them traps would be your best bet mate. and about leaving your cat in there over night, you will be waking up to a possibly dead or badly injured cat.
