Running Dogs to control FOXES

Recommended Posts

HERES A QUESTION....

If its okay to use Lurchers for rabbits as they are classed as vermin, but not to use Lurchers for Hares as they are classed as game.... (correct me if i am wrong, i dont own running dogs)

THEN WHY IS IT ILLEGAL TO USE LURCHERS FOR FOXES are they not classed as vermin.

not having a jibe at you dog guys and girls, i am all for getting rid of FOXES whatever it takes, dogs guns snares etc:

I just think the Running Dogs seem to be getting the worst of all the country sports, IN MY EYES IF YOU CAN TAKE A RABBIT WITH A LURCHER , THEN WHY THE FECK NOT A FOX THEY ARE BOTH CLASSED AS VERMIN.

IS IT THAT THE FOX IS A CUTE LOOKING ANIMAL AND NOT MANY FOLK SEE THEM GOING AROUND SO POLITICALY INCORRECT TO KILL THEM WITH DOGS, BUT THE RABBIT IS A PEST THAT ALL CAN SEE CAUSING DAMAGE WHEREVER THEY ARE, ITS TIME WE POSTED SOME PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE FOXES DO TO THE WILDLIFE AND FARM STOCK, MAYBE THEN WE CAN CHANGE THE RULES.

I am in favour of using dogs to control Foxes, even though i am a rifle shooter not against you guys, i just think the laws on dogs needs to be changed, to allow this sport to continue, and not be lost due to the undue pressure from police game wardens and most of all the fines and loss of gear, dogs and vehicles.

you dont need this kind of SHIT.

the law prevents the hunting of mammals with dogs , with exceptions for rabbits and rats ,flushing with one or two dogs , and bolting with a terrier to protect gamebirds. Its nothing to do with vermin or game mate . . Its also nothing to do with protecting animals , but thats another story.

You will notice the question comes from someone in scotland where the protection of wild mammals act is in force so you can use as many dogs as you require to flush foxes as long as the the fox is shot as soon as its safe to do so.You can also use terriers in pest control to protect lambs etc both my terriers are used for this purpose. There was virtually no argument put forward for lurchers in scotland because most of the people who used them didnt bother to lobby msp's so the msp's disregarded them. Some people tried to get extra evidence days for lurchers but the then rural affairs comittee ruled against it if half the lurchermen who used this site lobbied their msp it may have been different but in this life you only get out of something what you are prepared to put in.

Forgive me if im wrong but up here you can run a long dog on a fox, if you have reasonable grounds to believe that its injured and the dogs are the quickest and most effective way of bringing the fox to book... how ever those south of the border have no such luck :boogie:
