I have the litter of 12 now at 22 days. They are now all eating really well and gaining weight. I weighed them today before worming them and 11 weighed in at 4 lbs and the runt of the litter at 3 lbs. Funny thing is, she's the most feisty of the bunch. Just wondering what you folks have to say about the runt of the litter in general.

makes no odds imho, dad had a litter of springers a few months back and the so called runt also was the fireieist, as soon as she was born she was kicking and scraming much more than the others, and what she lacked in size she made up in courage, she bossed all but the biggest pups around, my cousin got her and she is now the smae size, just make sure she gets on the teet more than the others to help her catch up.

also my dads first terrier was the runt of the litter, he bought him for half the price of the other litter mates a couple of shillings i think? as he was only a boy at the time and couldnt afford the more expensive ones, but he still gos on about how the runt would hammer its litter brothers whenever they met up once they were older as they were all sold in a small village he grew up in.

About 10 years ago i was given a runt-smallest pup out of a litter, the litter was sold for good money but the runt was the only one out of the litter to make the grade.

Unfortunatley her career in the feild didn,t last long but she was a good little bitch.

It's not a runt, runts always die, she is the smallest, she is fiery and gutsy because she has to be to get food, if she wasn't fiery/bossy she'd get nowhere. :D She's not that much smaller than the others, so she will catch up as she grows up, just make sure she does get plenty of food. :)
