big decissions

Recommended Posts

hello lads n lasses got a big decission to make my 2 n a half year old dog has just pulled its fourth toe nail in 2 seasons, the only injuries he seams to take, leaving me idol most of last season and who knows how much of this season. he is a big strong suluki/grey x collie/grey who i have had since 6month old, a joy to work with and be around in general with his very placid household nature and reserved personallity untill you open the gate of any feild. As we all do i have became very attatched to him but need a dog that is working rather than recovering i have a 4month old dog aswell which will hopefully be on the end of this or start of next seasson, thus dont know what to do get rid of a kracker dog but who is looking to be prone to feet problems or keephim and sit off most of the seasson and hope not to be doing the same next seasson.

thanks tbear

Have you spoken to your vet see if theres anyway you can stop the nails going,

90% of the time nails get pulled because either they are to long or there is a problem with the nail bed,

kepping them clean and as short as you can sometimes helps.

If you choice to get rid.. find him a pet home as you say he is placid in the house...

If it was me and it was a good worker i would keep it work it lightly let it bring the young dog on.. keep him as a pet take him for walks keep him fairly fit.. if the young dog gets hurt you have a back up dog and vice verser.. As your only dog hes not ideal but if you like him and have more than one i would just keep him... jmho

keep its nails trimmed [bANNED TEXT] back and walk it on concrets to keep its feet toned,as for feet injuries some dogs suffer more than others, try running 40 m p h accross the british countryside yourself barefoot,a decent dog is worth keeping, try running it after a wet spell and choose the land to slip it carefully

i agree with countryman try keeping his nails short and i mean as short as you dare take them and try give him abit of roadwork, he seems to have been a loyal companion to you and maybe could help teach that pup a thing or two. hope you can solve his probs sounds a nice hound! :)
