SportingShooter 0
So when you say it was Air Rifles and Pistols, is that what you have convictions for, offenses under the Firearm Acts? Quote Link to post

It will depend upon the circumstances.... was it a minor offence or were you firing them at children in prams if you get my jist? Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
To be honest, the only way you are likely to find out is if you apply and see. Your fee will be returned if the application is unsuccessful so what have you to lose. Quote Link to post

Some FEOs are better than others. They will check the case of your conviction but if you can somehow demonstrate that you are a changed person ie your current occupation means you are very responsible and something like you also raise orphaned children from Lithuainia I am sure this will help. If you live in a dive of an area with three pitbulls and are on the dole I doubt it! Good luck anyway, no harm in trying. Quote Link to post
elvolcan 0
the air rifles were supposedley over the legal limit Well were they? Theres no point trying to hide from the truth. Maybe worth applying, but seems unlikely with a possession of an illegal firearm conviction in the past, especially if the OP does not admit, even now, that they were in the wrong ... You do not go into specifics of conviction...check this out... Persons Prohibited by Section 21 of the Firearms Acts from Possessing or Handling Firearms, Ammunition and Air-weapons. A person who has been sentenced to preventive detention, imprisonment or to corrective training for a term of three years or more; or who has been sentenced to be detained in a young offenders institution in Scotland, shall not, at any time, have a firearm or ammunition in his/her possession. This means for life and includes all firearms, even air weapons. A person who has been sentenced to borstal training, to corrective training for less than three years, or to imprisonment for a term of three months or more, but less than three years; or who has been sentenced to be detained for such a term in a detention centre or in a young offenders institution in Scotland, shall not at any time before the expiration of a period of five years, from the date of his/her release, have a firearm or ammunition in his/her possession. If none of this applies there is no legal bar to you holding a FAC, but depending on past and present circumstances you could still be in for an uphill struggle! As SS etc has suggested, talk to your FEO or simply apply, if you get refused you get your money back.....actually, if it is shaping up for a refusal WITHDRAW your application...much better than a formal refusal! Airguns are treated as firearms under the firearms act, so you might as well have been blasting away with a .22rf! Call your local Firearms licensing department and ask to speak to the clerk who deals with your area, explain the whole mess and ask her opinion, it might also help if you requested a meeting with the head of the department to discus your position. At the very least contact the FEO for your area and discus over the phone. John Quote Link to post
