"admittedly i crossed the footpath with the gun but i didnt shoot on it."

You broke the law by doing that. ;)

the gun was in the slip

and were you supervised in a public place (footpath)by somebody aged 21 or over?

because i was on my permission, and the landowner has signed a piece of paper sayig that i have sole permission to shoot on that land, therefore i am allowed on footpaths and bridleways.

same as a game shoot, if the gamekeeper/owner has sporting rights then they can legally shoot over the footpath.

You may have permission to shoot on the land, but the footpath is a "public place" and therefore have to follow the law concerning that, whether you have permission or not.

Regarding a "shoot"

To shoot across a footpath or bridleway may constitute a public nuisance or wilful obstruction. There may also be a liability in negligence if it is known that people are on, or likely to be on, the path.

Information signs, if appropriate, should be erected on shoot days on footpaths or bridleways.

Sounds like someone needs to show you how to make a Molotov cocktail.

But anyway, You didn't do anything illegal aside from the public place footpath thing above, but you needn't worry about being in trouble with the police about that as the whole 'what is a public place and what isn't' is so hazy that I seriously doubt they would bother trying to do anything regarding it.

Also, I obviously don't know what sort of person the landowner is, but if he has had any trouble with that guy in the past he may be willing to help you as you do him a service for free and after all, sounds like this guy was harassing you.

You really should put this post up on "Rimfire, Centerfire and Shotguns." There have been a lot of threads there about shooting near footpaths. There are guys who know a lot more than I do about the law on this. The only comment I would make is that if you and your oppo both heard this clown threaten to "get his gun and shoot at you" then you should go straight to the fuzz. Bugger all that crap about not grassing people up. He is way out of order and should lose his SGC/FAC. We none of us need dipshits like him. With idjits like him who needs antis to make us all look bad. FFS get him nailed.

the landowner shoots has even told me that if anyone gives me any shit to tell him and he will sort it out, but he is on holiday for 2 months at the moment so he cant help me out but i am happy to go to the police if need be because he is really getting on my tits as he walks off the footpath scaring all the pheasants when he can clearly see me stalking 1. :realmad:

It really does sound like he is harassing you. Admittedly I doubt the police would actually do much, but unless you're unlucky and come against an anti shooting copper you ought to be able to at least get one to 'pop round and say hello' and give him a quick tut, especially if he has any form of firearm himself, although I really doubt he does by the sounds of things.

And regarding the landowner it might be a good idea, providing that you have a contact number, to give him a call either to ask his opinion as the landowner or to notify him that that guy is giving you shit and you're going to the police or whatever.
