sambam 8
hi all, (stil cannot loggon from my pc its realy frustrating as i can see posts but cannot contribute to the forum) well a few of you might remember my post about my pup and the pics, well he was comming on perfect but started not retriveing to hand and latley hes getting worse and the 2 things he was perfect at (recall and retrive) have totaly gone out of the window [bANNED TEXT] i call him he just ignores me and carries on hunting up but he always stays close and never runs away and when i try retrive he takes it to the edge of the field about 10 ft away form me hes collie bull grey x saluki bull grey if that helps ,and i know its somthing im doin wrong but iv kept everything the same since he was a pup. a few lads have said hes just goin through a daft stage but im worried that come next year i wont be able to work him with his recall problem so i thought id ask the forum for advice as theirs alot of good dogmen that might jus know a little trick or be able to pint me in the right direction hope you can give me advise cheers sambam Quote Link to post
Guest Daks
hi, sounds to me like your dogs developing "DEAF EAR SYNDROME" usually happens about that adolesance age no matter what you try he'l do what he wants and it realy annoys the hell outta you specially having the head stong bull in him, but my advise go back to basics and try keeping it simple but intersting to kurb his natural huntin instincts and focus his energy on something else like bushing or just perserveer or failing that get one of those electric collars, i have an 8 month old saluki whippet grey and he's doing the same i lent my mates collar and went out this morning, i was warned to use it about no.3 or 4 so he buggeed off i called and nothing pressed the button heard a yelp but still no dog so wound it up full (so cruel) and pressed it again saw my dog backflip out of the bracken he was hiding in and run towards me i called for him but he ran the other way so shouted "oi" and pressed it again he backflipped again so i called him and he then came back he went the whole walk returning me on command after that so i guess it worked. just one more thing to add, when i first called him then pressed the button i realise i made a mistake as i shouted "come" then shocked him, he must of thought when he shouts "come" i get hurt so no way will i return to him, hence why i changed the command to "oi" so he assosates "oi" to pain and not to me saying come on if that makes sense??? ...atb ...daks Edited November 1, 2009 by Daks Quote Link to post
doglad1 32
It sounds to me like your trying to hard with him mate, dont BORE the dog with the training just give him the odd command now and again.try whistling and walking off instead of shouting him to come back to you ATB Quote Link to post

sambam 8
yeah he will follow me when i wistle or shout him its just the actual recall he will run towards me but run round me and hes back off. i had him out with my mates dog and after they had a play and a good run about he was alot more obidient so might be an energy problem lol. my dad said it might be the recall problem affecting his retrive which makes sence. anyway i got till next season to get him up to scratch and got a few offers to get im out for a watch on the lamp and ferreting, hes good in the house and on the lead just when hes off lead never had a problem getting him back on the lead jus tell him to sit and stay. ill get there in the end lol i think its the saluki in him atb sam Quote Link to post
