Rabbithunter 456
Was dying for a run out, so i phoned my mate early on, about 6 to see if we were going to go for it. We said we'll see what its like later. THe wind was howling, but in traditional Gt. British style soon dyed off. 9oclock came and he phoned me, it was still, but i told him if he fancied it we will do it, said see what its like at ten. Ten, there was a light breeze we went for it, not expecting it to be great. We went to my permission and noticed as we got out of town, the wind was howling. We pulled up in a lonning and the rain started. We set off using my lamp and we had four in the bag, then the lamp packed up. So a short journey back to the van to change lamps. We carried on in the opposite direction, The rabbits were absolutley rife, we soon had three or four in the bag. We went down a small field and into the back fields of the farmhouse - i could not believe my eyes. There were two fields, one end a farm, the other a wood. The fields were about 150yards wide and some 1000yards long. Rabbit after rabbit was jumping up, we ran one bunny, another 6 or 7 popped up from nowhere. We were hitting them brilliantly, the dogs were running well and picking up well. Between these two fields, there was at LEAST 100 rabbits and they were all running to the wood (gonna longnet these soon as the cows are out) We had twenty rabbits in the bag and were some 800 yards off the road. we got to the road and dropped the bunnies off. We walked a few more fields and got three before getting back onto the road. A hundred yards further round the road was two fields that were always good for a rabbit or two, or in this case TEN. After them two fields again we were on the road so another drop off. We headed back to the van and picked up another two rabbits as the batteries were going. A total of 39 rabbits. In bed at half two worth every minute Quote Link to post

Having been out netting a few times myself I find it a very dull business compared to lamping. If you want to do a proper control job hit them hard all through the winter and get the numbers right down so that you can leave them alone until the season comes round again. HBG 350
exellent night mate good crack, but like nightwalker said if there's sport to be had like you've just described i would leave the net at home, each to there own i suppose well done again Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
Andy your welcome to come over one night to see these fields of 100 Nightwalker, you say about the net. It is a really good way of control, and the farmer is wanting control. Although I agree it would be very sporting to hit them hard with the dog's On a windy wet night, im sure we could stand at the wood side and pick them off one by one and take 20 or 30 out of each field Well done rabbithunter Which dogs do you run as i know Skye is only a pup? Andrea, they were my mate's dogs, One has a very small dose of Minshaw in it Two cracking dogs and at full fitness, they will run for even longer despite the age (one is about 7 the other is a bit younger at 3 or 4) Quote Link to post
