Aaron Proffitt 142
Is this pretty typical ? The dog is certainly meticulous enough... almost slow. But then again, I've always preferred a slow working dog as they seem to be able to route up those tight sitting birds, missing very few. What's your thoughts ? Going to post this on the terrier section , as well, to see if maybe some of those guys can add further . Quote Link to post
Mickey Finn 3,094
I just saw this Aaron. I like a close working dog. But thats way too slow for me. I think any bird with feet would be long gone. On the force fetch stuff. It just looked flat. When Teddy Roosevelt said that about Airedales. He didn't know about drahthaars. ATB Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
Thanks for putting that vid up Aaron: I agree, it is very slow, and although the dog seems to be very highly trained it did look a bit flat. Maybe I'm just not one for quite so much discipline in a dog, but I certainly like to see mine hunting with a bit more verve and style. My Airedale has bags of both, and although she's not yet been shot over she works a fair bit faster and with a lot more enthusiasm. I wonder if the point and freeze before flushing had been taught to the dog: I doubt it as my dog also freezes on point, just naturally, but she only does this with birds, not furred game.
