BEARINATOR 2,916
Is it broken to ferrets because if it isn't you will have to break it, i normally break my dogs to ferrets inbetween 6 - 8 weeks by letting the ferrets and pups run around together, then get them drinking milk out of a saucer together. When you take the terrier out let it mark a working rabbit sett and put the ferret in and let the terrier see the ferret working as it will help build up the bond between them. Good luck with your ferreting mate Quote Link to post

BEARINATOR 2,916
If they get on fine at home there shouldn't be any problems out in the fields mate, Festa with yours being as young it will be easy as long as you keep an eye on the ferret, because if the ferret nips it now when the pup is older it will kill them Quote Link to post

desertdog 149
break your pup to ferrets very young, i did with mine as pups and kits, they,re ok inthe garden, but terriers being terriers i still have to careful in the field, the little feks get excited and want to go on the murder up, i dont take me pugs and ters out together anymore, but it is a good thing having them broke to live stock. waidmann 105
sound advice above. i started my parson straight away( after a week in the house)with my young jill, they got on like a house on fire. i let the mother out and she nipped him right on the hooter,he yelped she let go and that was that. every day they play together all three. now the pup is just over four months old and has been ferreting 3 times, he now follows the ferrets down the hedges( ferrets underground, him topside)so i know where they are,and has started marking where the rabbits are moving/about to bolt.in short an asset already when the ferrets surface he shows me where and has had his first bunny too ( quarter grown in the net) i took advice from my mates( as i'm new to ferreting) and it seems to be paying off. they are starting to work as a team( with a bit of puppy play). i'm not putting any pressure on him and he seems to be learning well and loving it. a couple of hours in the fields do the pup the world of good and he is sleeping the rest of the day ( his dreaming is top class fun!!!!). out on sunday with the team and looking forward to the crack with the lads, the long dogs catching, and a bunny in the oven. love it. atb Quote Link to post

Sorry telboy I thought it said Rainham, I know Grays a bit aswell. I do most hunting but not all as I don't have any terriers now, just running dogs, guns, ferrets and fishing. And a bit of trapping from time to time. Quote Link to post
