Dave C 63
I was out early yesterday, only the second time we have shot at this farm and the the cover is unbelievably thick, its all real deep Holy and thorn hedges and big wood piles, last time we only had the Cocker cross but as good as she is, she just dosnt have the spirit to charge through the thick stuff. So i was asked to take Ted my Terrier, now he is a bushing machine and the thicker the better but he dose have a tendency to get away from me on open land, which isnt a problem when bushing with the Lurchers, but obously frustrating when shooting. So we were now looking for Pheasants, but there is also allot of Foxes and other vermin in them wood piles so you never know. Ted There was a Fox sun bathing hear but we just couldn't get close enough Ted dispatching a Rook for us Ted deep inside the wood pile and Fudge searching for a way in The mole catcher had a good morning as well End of day I think the all the Pheasants had taken a battering from the storm the night before, typically we had been tripping over them all summer. But never mind there was enough sport, but not as tasty. Dave. Quote Link to post

I used to have 2 jack russels a springer and a lurcher. The terriers would make music on scent which eventually made the springer yip as well. A good pack and great fun at the time but no use for my current shooting in a syndicate. Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
i have always had my terriers in the beating line, they work like hell, give tounge and wo there is a fox in the drive only twice have they chased a fox out of the drive and to ground, two guns went with me and the next drive went on without us both fox in the bag at the end of the day and on both occasions we only missed one drive, bargain. as long as the terrier are obiedient and not too hard mouthed then they are an asset to the shooting day added to that they can retrieve small game( if you have to carry what three terriers and a labx bring you then wear a thin jacket or keep two none shooting beaters in the near!!!). yep i'm all for terriers as all rounders. Dave C 63
I totally agree waidmann, mine is a bit hard mouthed but will retrieve, he is also useful at dispatching crows as he retrieves them Cheers Dave. Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
Their ideal for tight places terriers i just stick to spaniels due to their being a few badger setts about.atb dell Quote Link to post
