Which gun???

Recommended Posts

Help needed, i have just took my application for shotgun cert to police today with fee etc... now im waiting for the inspection of cabinet.

I have started to look for ideas on my first gun, will definatly be doing some pigeon bashing, few rabbits and hopefully some pheasant shoots when i get half decent.

I would also like to do some clays as iv had a go and it is addictive!!! :gunsmilie:

So my question is whats a good allrounder that will put up with a bit of everything. looking up to £700-£800 max.

ANY ADVICE WILL BE TAKEN ON BOARD.

Many thanks

o/u, semi auto, pump or s/s???

I shoot mainly pigeon rabbit and crow, but also do some wildfowling.

For in tight spaces (in the hide, out of sunroof in ma car) i use a benelli super 90 semi auto which is also used for wildfowling, it recycles all shells i have put through it from 26gram- 52gram

obviously a semi auto woudlnt be an option on a pheasant shoot so i would say over and under, what most people say is an allround gun, i use a miroku 3700 which is choked quarter and 3 quarter, its about 30yrs old now but it still works mint pointed in the right direction it puts plenty of lead in the air,

I have just bought a brand new webley and scott 912G, i paid £599 and its was money well spent, it comes to shoulder perfect and shoots just how a gun should, its a 'cheap' 'beginners' gun....well i aren't a beginner and its perfect for me, it takes 3inch magnums so i will no doubt have it out on the marshes after a few geese this season, it doesn't look amazing metal to wood finish isnt perfect but it is alot better than most guns in the price range!

For an all round gun i would buy a webley scott 912g (visit www.avalon-guns.com) and Spend the rest of your budget on a lesson at a clay ground, and a good load of cartridges!!

Good luck and enjoy shooting

Hope You Hit Plenty Mate!!

Id agree with the above. Sounds like an o/u is the way forward and would be ideal for clays / pigeons / pheasant shoots. You can pick a nice one up fairly cheap. For example, I bought a brand new lanber o/u for around £450 a few years back and im more than happy with it.

For rabbits, i tend to use an air rifle, again you can pick up a nice pcp for around £350. So for £800 you have 2 guns.

If a semi wasnt a problem on the pheasant shooting, then I would definately recommend a semi, as they are so easy to use and versitile. Again, you could pick up a cheap escort hatsan for £300, or for your budget you could get a nice second hand beretta 391 for the £600 mark.

definatly o/u is the way im looking, just looked at the webley & scott, seems very nice is it a manual change over from barrel to barrel???

i do like the lanbers, is there much different in performance on barrel length?? for example does a 30" barrel give tighter gruops at say 40 yards than a 28" barrel????

I already have a weirarch hw100 for my bunny bashing nights out, so the shotgun wouldnt be used much for rabbits unless one popped out when i was out, and it would be rude not to put it in freezer :tongue2: .

many thanks lads.
