jusar whippets 10
Hi guys/gals I have a particular field that is quite rife with the bunnies, but unless i shoot them, the dog isn't really succesful on the lamp here. The field is surrounded by a wooden gate fence, (no prob as the dog can jump it easy) and there is gate access to the right hand side and at the rear on the left hand side. The field has a small tarmac footpath about 3ft wide that runs behind the field and provides access onto the road. The issue here is, that all of the burrows are in a thin pocket of heavily brambled woodland that is about 4ft wide and runs the length of the field. This woodland has metal fencing with sheep netting on it aswell, so it is nearly impossible to get into it without a chainsaw The bunnies congregate about 15/25ft away from the fence and i have only ever caught one with the dog which i slipped when i was looking directly at the fence. Can you guys shed any light on where i should be trying to get to and where it would be best to stand. I've attached a picture if this helps. Any help appreciated please folks Quote Link to post
Paid 935
I would come through either gate, and walk along the wire fence line just in front of the warren, and try to lamp out into the field. Quote Link to post

furdy 0
If you want to clear the bunnies away a drop net would be hard to beat in those circumstances. If its just sport, wait until the wind is howling toward the fence, really dark night. Keep low and creep as far along the fence line as you can. When lamping up just for a quick look, shine higher than you normally would and lower the light slowly until you get an idea of where the bunnies are. Tends to spook them less than if you just turn a full beam on them. Quote Link to post

jusar whippets 10
Cheers lads for the advice, will try and get along the fence from one of the gates. If this is unsuccesful, i'll put a few ferrets in and longnet the field and have the dog aswell Quote Link to post
UNFIT 0
this is where an intelligent dog that is used to working loose will come into its own ,it would already be up on the rabbits before you put the lamp on ,giving it more chance than a dog that only runs of a slip .try and get your dog to do the same ,it might just work in your favour .
