falconbob2004 0
Hello all, I am presently shooting rabbits on my local golfcourse with my excellent Air Arms S510 SL .22 air rifle with a Hawke 3-12x50 IR. Its a great piece of kit and very accurate up to 30 yards for humane killing i.e. headshots. I would like to get myself a rimfire after I obtain a F.A.C. and would appreciate some advice on going down the route by joining a club . Thanks, falconbob2004 Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
i take it you mean a target club? where are you? is the land cleared for a .22 lr? any clubs will more than likely have a web page where you can get in touch. good luck Quote Link to post

Yes I mean target shooting. I thought that by going down this route to get my F.A.C. I would benifit by having the instruction, especially on the safety aspects of shooting rimfire and having the facilities to sight in and practice with competition. I live Northumberland and I will be seeking permissions and clearances but I am not sure about being cleared for the golf course where I only shoot after hours lamping with the air rifle. Maybe it would be suitable for .17 rimfire, I dont know as it all seems to be a bit of a grey area reading stories from around the country, but the golf course is pretty isolated. Any target shooters with advice. Thanks. Quote Link to post

You will be taught safe gun handling, good shooting practice, and accurate shooting over iron sights. While you have your FAC conditioned only for target use you will not be able to shoot in the field but when you get a permission sorted for 22lr you can ask your club secretary to be one of your referees. His word will count for a lot. AND to start shooting at a target club you don't even have to hold a FAC, let alone own your own gun! Most clubs will allow you to shoot as a guest up to 6 times a year. Pay the entrance fee, pay for the ammo you use, and kill some paper! Me, I'd say go for it. ATB Ric Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
i would agree on that. if no "mentor" is available to show you the ropes and the principles of shooting, weapon safety and good practice the gun club is the best bet. in the time you are active there you will probably find someone to take you in the field and you can pick up on that stuff too. go for it bud. atb Quote Link to post
