i find as an all rounder( bushing, ratting, rabbiting, bolting fox and retrieving of small game) the parson russel to be a good bet( i have bred them in germany and have bought one here since coming back).

If you want a terrier then either the russell or a plummer,i know of plummers doing all the jobs from ferreting dogs, working alongside nets be they long or purse to picking up on shoots,to ratting and digging. Not all will do all but most can cover a lot of what you want. The patt, lakie and border can be a little headstrong for working alongside hawks and ferrets, not saying they can't but on the whole they can be hard work.Your'll get a good lurcher doing all you want and as for the established breeds like the gsp, spaniel etc well they've been doing it all for years. As for tryin to buy a pup near to you your resticting your choice greatly and as most on here will tell you,you have to travel sometimes for what you want.By the way i have a plummer pup for sale from parents which i own who do most of what you want, ferreting, net work, bushing, ratting and digging, but your'll have to travel for it lol.Nothing like lighting the touch paper eh stevie????? lol.

everyone is just going to state whats in their kennel!

because thats what works for them......each to their own and all that!

My only advise is get a dog you like, one that you like the look of and which you feel happy walking on a lead, as then you will be happy with teh dog and put the effort into training and playing with it and will get the best from you and the dog!

get what someone else recommends and you may not feel as attached and wont put in teh effort the same

go out with a few people and different dogs if you can.....see a few out and about, go to a show and stand back and watch teh dogs interact or not and then make your own mind up, on what you want!
