jonesy 111
Well lads having trouble with my bitch she has just turned three, had quite a few digs last year with her,a couple of times i broke through to her with a rabbit so she got a belt however had succesful digs after this with her, well this year dropped her in a couple of places with nothing in and she came out after a look, then had a dig with her a couple of weeks ago not right up to her quarry but about a foot away and she kept it there, then last friday with all the rain we had i had a walk out dropped her in a place where she showed some interest she was in for about an hour without staying in one place then eventually she stayed it wasnt deep so decided to drop a hole to get her out ,every time i broke through she moved on,not up to anything just wouldnt stay and wouldnt come out eventually she walked out,i was well pissed off.Got a call of a mate to check some holes on sunday and she done the same again only got her out when my son came over and called her out after about five hours,i just cant understand it,she is due in heat soon but i dont think this would do it to her, never seen a terrier do this like thgis after being dug to before,i have seen pups do this but before they have seen anything. COULD BE RABBIT AGAIN BUT MAYBE SHE'S NERVOUS OF YOU IF YOUR GIVING HER A CLIP WHEN SHE COMES OUT? MY OLD BITCH WOULD KILL A RABBIT & DRAG IT ROUND WHEN SHE'D KILLED IT & WOULD ONLY COME OUT IF THERE WAS NO NOISE OUTSIDE THE SETT( I wouldnt dig if she was keep moving) Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
on the continent they train the dogs in wooden tunnel systems with a lid. this enables the dog to follow a fox through( seperated by a bar system) and you can trap the fox so the dog has to stand him( still seperated) this makes the dog crazy as he cant get to his quarry.the advantag is of course that you can monitor the dogs progress( knots in string which turn when the fox/dog move through) and can get to know how the dog will react. a training aid only but ausefull one. it is not the same as 2m below in an earth but the dog gets to know his quarry and you the dog at work. are there such facilities in the uk? is your dog also used for rabitting? lilpip1234 62
hiya mate best thing you can do is wait and see if it is here coming in season and as for the artificial earths i used to use them myself built one or two and i found them great for training younger dogs and also to find out whether a dog is gunna stay to its quarry or stand of Quote Link to post
