LOCATOR COLLARS ON FERRETS?

Guest Frank

Recommended Posts

Just wondering, as im starting my ferts out this season and have never used a locator in the past, but i will now, do the ferrets take getting use to the locator collars?

Should i put on the collars on now, before i go ferreting, to get them use to it?

I dont want them to spend all their time trying to scratch their collars off, when they should hunt, if you know what i mean?

Any experiences, would be great, thanks. :)

Frank.

Do them over tight , If you see what i mean . If you put them on to loose they will come of and piss you of . You will soon see how tight you need them on to be safe for the collar an ferret . If youve brought the mrk 3 you will proberbly need to make new holes in the collar , Hot needle does the job .

hi frank i always get my ferrets used to wearing them before the hunting starts like you say you could be stood waiting for rabbits to bolt when all the while your ferret is trying to get the collor off and i am talking from expirence. When i first started ferreting many moons ago,i put the collor on the ferret the day i went out put her to ground nothing bolted for half hour so i got the locator out, located the ferret just inside the hole where i put her going mad trying to get the collor of she had in fact got it stuck round a tree root.So now when i have new ferrets i get them used to collors before going out.Bigeddie

I must be lucky, Ive never had a collar come off yet, but its true about adding a couple more holes.

And even when ive had collars on young ferrets hunting for the first time, they never seemed to be too bothered by them, they just get in and do there stuff!
