Hi,

I have a Whippet he is 7 mths old, he chases rabbits but just cant seem to catch them as yet, will he get better with time or ( when older ) he gets very close to catching but they seem to turn a little to quick

How old were your dogs when they caught their first rabbit????

Hes still quite young mate, dont work him too hard or he may loose confidence. Whippets can turn on a sixpence, or mine can anyway. Give him time

Give him time and not too much running.Just out of curiosity wat strain of whippet is he out of because to very good mates are exspeiriencing problems with their adult dogs that just want to run and not pick up and this i have wittnesed with my own eyes.They are not novice dog men with over 50 years exspeirience between them with variouse lurchers.atvb dell

Hi Im not sure of what strain of Whippet he is but I know he is the bigger breed and I know he is 98% pure Whippet and 2% cheeky....

wouldnt worry mate its only a pup but he will problys turn out better all in time but dont over work him atb

hay mate i had the same problem, dont run it too much or it will loose its confidance, mine started catching about 12 months,

 

it was like the penny dropped and over night was a diffrant dog,

 

my whippet is a laguna strain and is sooty sam lines,

He'll learn mate, my 12 month old beddy whippet is the same. Hopefully he'll start anticipating when the rabbit is about to turn, and pick the right moment to strike.
