jenksi87 3
i have had my fn19 for a month or so now and allthough i have been out with it a bit and had a few rabbits, pidgeons and rooks i have not really checked what kind of grouping the gun does. i know this should have been done straight off but i was just excited to get out with the new gun. when i check it is zeroed i only fire a couple of pellets. this morning i put some targets up in the garden and had a few shots to line my scope in as i took it off the other day. the groupings i was achieving was around 1 inch to 1&1/2 inch at around 25yard. this to me is not what i imagined i would get. i was looking at well inside 1/2 inch at this kind of range. i am guessing that it is the pellets i am putting through it (field target trophy .22) as i had a steady enough hand. i have not tried any other pellets for the simply reason that i cannot afford to spend £10 per tin of pellets until i find which ones suit it best. does any body know of any where that do a few pellets of different types, say 20 or so of perhaps 5 or 6 different brands so as i can try them out? at first i assumed it was my movement that would occasionally send a pellet over or to the side of my quarrys head. now i know it isnt. if i am getting groupings like this at 25yard, i assume it will be much more at 35yard or so. sorry for being a bit long winded by the way Quote Link to post

At 25 yards you sjould be able to shoot ragged one hole groups. But before you go and order those pellpacks, wait until the meet as there are bound to be different pellets around for you to try out. Field diabolo for starters as that is what I use and I have a hunch, that you'll do better with them. ATB Michael Quote Link to post
hughes_jh 0
I would say there are probably only about 3 or 4 different types of pellets that i would ever buy again. If I buy another gun I'll try and make it work with those pellets first without even wanting to try anything else. Rather than start a debate (because everyone has their favourites) I've had a look on the pellpax list and my favourites are all in there. Yes, you should be putting 5 pellets in a half inch group at 25 yards. Also, don't worry about pellet shapes, just use domed heads for hunting. Quote Link to post
chay 0
alright mate chasing a zero round can be a nightmare ! assuming youre shooting prone /or from a super comfy position with possibly pillows to minimize rifle/muzzle movement the list of checks are almost endless .its a new gun so you know its not been seriously knocked -is the cross hairs horizontal/ verticle? - are the cross hairs loose? -scope creep? -mount creep? [usually with one piece mounts] does the scope adjust according to the number of clicks on the turrets? -is the screws securing the stock to the rifle tight? can you tell ive had problems too these are the main things id eliminate then turn to the pellets .best of luck Quote Link to post
jenksi87 3
everythings fine regarding the scope and mounts e.t.c (as far as i can tell). i was sat resting my gun on the top of a chair. kept my magnification on 6. (3-9 x 42) i put a couple of pellets more or less through the same hole and then the shot after almost 2 inch to the left, another an inch down. something isn't right some where. i am just assuming its the pellets. michael, thankyou for helping me out yet again. thats another couple of tins in the bag for the meet also i have been told acupell tend to go well through them? 8shot 192
if you cant afford £10+ on a tin of pellets try the napier power pellets about £6 a tin there a good alrounder or try the pellets uve got...put them in backwards down the barrel and give it ago atb Quote Link to post
jenksi87 3
i didnt mean just buying a tin of pellets mate. i meant buying 6 or 7 different tins at £10 each to find out which work best Quote Link to post
chay 0
forgot to say my pcp airrifle had dodgy seals so air was leaking out when gun was live ready to fire and that was strait out the box Quote Link to post
jenksi87 3
forgot to say my pcp airrifle had dodgy seals so air was leaking out when gun was live ready to fire and that was strait out the box to be honest mate this is my first pcp, so i am still getting used to it although i have an old diana g79 springer thats over 40 year old that i can hit better groupings with at that range Quote Link to post
chay 0
defo check pellets before querying the seals Quote Link to post
