Peter Grant 0
Hi everyone Just signed up as a new member so not used to these forums and how to go about posting questions and topics etc. - please go easy on me! I want to apply for a FAC for a rifle for deer (Muntjac, Roe etc.) but don't want to have to aquire a different rifle for each species etc. Can someone please remind me what legal requirements are in place for minimum bullet weights and velocities / muzzle energy etc. Would I be right in thinking a .243 would cover all my bases including fox ? I have access to land that has approval for .243 and .222. Could I include fox control in an application for a .243 ? Any advice welcome as I want to get a rifle I can also use in Scotland where I believe the laws relating to calibres and muzzle energies / velocities are different. Yokel Matt 918
The .243 is a popular cartridge - low recoil, inherently accurate (depending on the shooter of course) with a wide selection of manufacturers for both the hardware and ammo. It will comfortably cover all of the uk deer species and goes together like peas n' carrots with a variation for both fox and deer - no real need to change ammo either as long as you use deer loads for both. I wouldn't get too caught up in MV & bullet weights at this stage and just crack on with factory ammo for starters Laws in Scotland are different but the .243 is not effected.
