Deker 3,491
Just been asked by a guy I am mentoring about deer attractants (not Calls). Various different concoctions available which are apparently irresistible to different deer for different reasons at different times of year..but I have no experience of any, never found the need so far...anyone used any deer attractants?? If so what sort and with what results? Does anyone make their own?? Cheers Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Now i will stand corrected, but i am not aware that any has been made for the British Species. In the US of A its a widely used thing, but over here its a bit different. I suspect you would be better off dumping a pile of windblown apples near a high seat than using the fancy lures. Please do not waste your money on the USA ones as they are formulated for whitetail... Quote Link to post
Guest Fireball
Mentoring Deker i think you`ll find creating a better habitat in the area you shoot over will pay more dividends in the long term than just an hope full or lucky quick fix. Such as silly gimmick Deer licks.. This area was coppiced 4 years ago it now has new growth, Bramble and numerous other plant life where as before it had no under story with a muddy bare floor with no light and no wildlife. Maybe i should of just hung some deer licks up under the dark canopy and avoided the hard work?? Edited August 16, 2009 by Fireball Quote Link to post
2434me 13
One sure fired attracter is a pheasant feeder with a spiral feeder attached underneath !!! They eat more wheat than the birds in one of my woods ! (Its not an important wood so I let them get on with it ). The americans use a 6 inch plastic pipe about 5/6 foot long with a "Y" junction on the bottom. You block the bottom but leave one of the "Y" ends open facing up . Fill it with wheat or barley and tie it to a tree high enough for the deer to feed out of it but not birds etc . They then put a trail cam in a good spot and hey presto! Good pictures of whatever deer you have on the place . It should work for Roe . Worth giving it a try maybe ? . Just found a decent picture , Edited August 17, 2009 by 2434me Quote Link to post
