Fat-Ferret 857
I came across a good ferret cub today and it ws very cheap, it will suit a couple of young ones I have held back for myself, But unlike the other cubs I have had where the floors where done in some sort of black water proof /anti rot type stuff, this cub floor is just plain ply, which looks to me like it wont last long after they start to use the corner, what would be good and safe to proof it with, as the stuff the other cubs is painted with has done the job for the last few years but I dont know what it is. mattydski 560
It could be marine ply which will tolerate the moisture content of the urine, in which case you could try just sealing it with a petsafe, waterproof varnish. Just give it a light sanding, then apply several coats of Polyurethane 'boat' varnish...sanding very lightly between coats. It will stop the penetration of liquid matter and allow the sawdust to soak it up.. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
I use two coats of exterior goss on the insides of my cages, that way if they need tidying up I just give then another two coats, gloss also has the advantage of water proofing the inside of the cages, helps keep out rain Quote Link to post
John-B 4
Use a litter try or follow the advice above, my new hutch has 3 coats of high build woodstain and good ventilation aswell as being cleaned out very often. Quote Link to post
