Memories of a special worker

Recommended Posts

Back in the early eighties £35 was a fair price for a 14 week old pup.

As a sapling he was a pretty boy.

he soon grew into a memorable worker, better than I knew at the time.

He ruled a strong pack.

As an old hand he could still show hat little bit of something special.

Bedlingto/whippet x beardie/greyhound. Small, 23", very quick and agile, hard (if it got up he'd lock on), with a strike that seemed to have a little magic that could catch that impossible rabbit or hare.

We all have those special dogs.

Thaank you rough coated.

Always wish i had a picture of my best ever dog, called him spirit and he was dennis brown bred, from deerhound blooded lurcher blood.

took everything from rats to fallow deer, fast, bright and gave 110%

Yes It was nice to look back and the pics give a few ideas, like I could have sworn he had his dew claws off but the photo says otherwise.

Nice read and photos lad! did he sire litters?

No though as you can see there were plenty of greyhounds bitches available but sometimes you have the finished article in a specific cross and the pups would have likely not been as good ie a greyhound brood would increase speed, he had enough, and reduced stamina which was already his weakest point. A collie cross would have given to much collie for my taste and beddy or whippet reduced the size below my personal preference. iI've never been a fan of line bred strains as the few I've seen have tended to be a little like the horse that was designed by a commitee, the camel, ie too much of a little of everything, whereas when a cross delivers what was intended, not always the case, you get what you were after, an animal like him. My exception to this would be saluki greyhound hybreds that have only two closely related set of genes.

But others will I'm sure have other idea's.
