I think they need whole carcass personally not chunks of muscle rich meat , so adding rabbits fine , some folks think the only meat on the planet is cling film wrapped & sold in tesco Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
If your happy with what your feeding them, and the ferrets are happy on it, then carry on with it, I feed mine fresh rabbit, but I have plenty to go at, but I would just as soon move on to dry if I had to Quote Link to post
John-B 4
ferrets are meat eaters at the end of the day, however mine get a varied diet including meat, whole rabbits and there is always a small bowl of biscuits in the cage aswell, they have the choice of what the want to eat, but if you are feeding them dry biscuits ensure they have loads of fresh water as they will go through loads of it... Kay 3,709
As ferrets are obligate carnivores they are designed to eat raw meat so that should answer your question, lets face it kibble hasnt been around for ever Quote Link to post
the_hunter1983 2
As ferrets are obligate carnivores they are designed to eat raw meat so that should answer your question, lets face it kibble hasnt been around for ever yea it does sort of like anno your right in what you say like at the end of the day kibble isnt their natural diet?? meat and things are..Is it possible to take raw food, grind it up, heat it to high temperatures, add ingredients that are not part of the normal diet, add back nutrients altered or destroyed during processing, press it into amusing shapes and have this be the equivalent of the natural diet? surely that wouldnt be good? its the same for dogs thats why i feed a raw diet to my dogs..Ferrets are strict carnivores, they are designed to eat whole prey items, which includes all parts of the killed animal not just raw meat?. The only nonmeat items they might eat in their diet would be in the stomach and intestines of their prey, like grains, fruits and vegetables...thats ok but why make dry ferret foods then? they say all the vitimins are all in it but surely it cant be as its not natural? so how much raw meat should be feed then do you recon? im not saying that dry food is best i sort of see from what has been said that its not as surely their natural food is far better than processed dry food? but could they stay healthy on just a constant meat diet? i was just wondering if what i was told was true as to never feed dry food and stay strictly on a raw diet? as i was confused on how much raw to feed and how often and also what to feed? say would chicks be ok to feed to my kits or would a red meat from the butchers be better? thanks again for the replys Quote Link to post
