skinnyrat 0
right about here i,ve never had any problem,s with me lurchers if they chased the odd rabbit while growing up, they have all turned out cracking rabbiting dog,s, and mine used to be all rounder,s , great on rabbit , kill foxes in a split second, draw foxes from dig,s im not the one calling people idiots tommy, everyone has the right to do what they think is best for thier own dog,but i dont think many people will see any benefits in letting a 5 month old pup chase rabbits, and if someone is calling you an idiot, its only fair you have your say,i have no problem with savage,he has always seemed like a civil enough guy,i wish him all the best with his pup Edited July 27, 2006 by skinnyrat Quote Link to post
Guest savageboy
ok skinnyrat, no problem ,but i do exercise me pup of the lead , si if somthing does get up , unless i,m linford christie i would not be able to stop my pup, i,m not one for just walking miles with me pup on the lead like the greyhound boy,s. i exercise mine over places wher there are rabbits buty loads of cover as well , yer see a bunny for a split second . just like caravan park there are caravan,s toilet blocks wood,s and it was dark it happen,s so fast, it,s part of growing up, its never harmed any of me lurcher,s i ,ve had from pup , and they have turned out great dog,s . BUT JUST REMENBER I AM NOT GOING OUT RUNNING MY PUP ON RABBITS, NOW AND AGAIN THEY WILL POP UP JUST NEAR ME PUP. SO MY LURCHER PUP DOES WHAT IT,S NATRUAL INSTINK TELLS IT TO DO AND THAT IS CHASE , JUST THE SAME AS CHASING ANOTHER DOG ON THE FIELD , .i hope this clears up my tread and the few people under stand what they are reading . all the best savageboy Quote Link to post
wunwin 0
f**k me lets hope it pisses it down for the next 4 weeks, then we can all stop bitching about running dogs on hard ground. As for a pup accidentally running 1 rabbit for a bit of fun, so what, no harm done. Its too hot to row, have a beer and chill out, hunting time is just round the corner!!!!!!!!! Quote Link to post

Guest alastair
also exersize my pups off the lead,i find it helps with recall lessons,if you unleash a 12 month pup for the ist time all the smells and excitment it will take some effort to get it back.altough i did shit myself when my 11 month took off after a fox (before ban) in snow ,when i got thier it was stone dead, that dog never looked back and took 12 fox before its 18 month old all single pawed.every one to thier own training ideas. Guest markbrick1
good on you mate your dog is showing a good instinct to do what it is bread for and most people would be happy when a pup at that age chases, but you will get a lot of critism on these sites as most of em not all have read what they know in plummer books and dont get out there in all weather doing what they love take care mark Quote Link to post
macker 5
best of luck with your pup savageboy im sure if you had a seasoned worker that was picking up daytime bunnys no problem there would of been little or no bunnys sitting out far enough for a slip take it easy macker Quote Link to post

dodger 3,589
I personaly dont think it will do your pup any harm chasing those perticuler rabbits infact it will keen her up for when she,s properly introdused I only stand bye that tho if you now wait till she,s a few months older for her next race at quarry,as i do agree that a pup should not experience failure at an early age hence throwing the towel in later down the line but as i,ve said an occasional early taste of whats to come never did any of mine any harm. And dont forget to try and get at least some decent road walking in they need it for toughness to the feet toneing, strengthening mussels tendons etc. Dog looks well savage and good luck with her. ps whatch them feckin rabbits for making a beeline for under the carravans esspesialy if your walking the dog at nite otherwise you,l have no dog to start next season mate, not in one peice anyhow.
