JUST WONDERING WHAT SOME OF YOU GUYS DO TO KEEP YA DOGS WELL CONDITIONED THROUGH THE SUMMER MONTHS AND WHAT YOUS DO TO BUILD THAT BEFORE THE SEASON BEGINS AND THEN THROUGHOUT THE SEASON? THE B VITAMIN GROUPS ARE A VITALLY ESSENTIAL GROUP OF VITAMINS THAT REGULATE ENERGY THROUGHOUT THE BODY BEIT MAN OR BEAST, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE BEST NATURAL SOURCES OF THESE VITAMIN GROUPS RATHER THAN SUPPLEMENTS, IE: MEAT IS THE BEST NATURAL SOURCE BUT WHICH MEAT WOULD YOU SAY WOULD CONTAIN HIGHEST LEVELS OF THE B VITAMIN GROUPS THAT CAN BE FED TO TERRIERS? WE ALL KNOW THAT SOMETIMES DIGS CAN GO ON FOR A LOT LONGER THAN AN HOUR OR SO AND THESE VITAMINS ARE ESSENTIAL IN REGULATING BLOOD AND ENERGY FLOW TO THE MUSCLES. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON USING SUPPLEMENTS OR NATURAL? I ALWAYS LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I PUT INTO MY DOGS AND AM NOT THAT FUSSED ON SUPPLEMENTS UNLESS THEY ARE FOR MEDICAL REASONS. AND IF YOU USE THE NATURAL APPROACH WHAT MEAT HOLDS HIGHEST LEVELS OF THESE VITAMIN GROUPS?

THANKS.

Hepher.

Well if you take into consideration that the muscles are made of red and white tissues, and that both types of tissue have different jobs to do, then you can start working on what to give to build them up. I must admit I use supplements, I give catasol, or red cell depending on what I'm trying to do, catasol is an injectable that gives a boost, so is good if the dogs had a hard time of it. I also feed fats (day before planned dig) that slowly release energy, so on long digs the dog has plenty on board to keep it going, and I use a supplement that helps to stop the lactic acid build up, as this is what is produced when the dog uses its muscles, this is what poisons the muscles causing cramps.

During the summer I walk my dogs 9 miles in the morning 7 miles on a night they also get to do alot of swimming, so the dogs are kept quite active during the summer months, so they are in quite good condition all year around. I also like to keep them at just above working weight all summer as I hate to see dogs that are carrying a bit too much beef about them. When the time comes then the dogs will do less road miles and more physical stuff is done to get them ready. Ohh and they arent allowed anywhere near rabbits as I would hate to see my dogs mark these up. But what do I know.

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY DIGGERMAN, I'VE FOUND THAT ADDING LIVER TO THE DOGS DIET IS THE BEST WAY OF ADDING THE B VIT GROUP, THE B VITS ARE ESSENTIAL IN CELL SYNTHESIS AND GIVE A GOOD CONTROLLED ENERGY RELEASE, I FEED MY DOGS PURELY ON B.A.R.F WITH THE OCCAISIONAL VEGGIE SCRAPS FROM THE TABLE, AS YOU SAY A GOOD REGIMENTED EXERCISE REGIME IS A MUST ALSO. I ADD BEEF FAT AND SOMETIMES CODLIVER OIL TO THEIR DIET DURING THE SEASON, IT'S AMAZING HOW MUCH WEIGHT A TYKE CAN BURN OFF EVEN IN A 2-3 HR DIG. I THINK PROPER CONDITIONING CAN SOMETIMES BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GETTING A RESULT ON A LONG DIG AND HAVING A DOG WALK. JUST AN OPINION BUT LIKE YOU , WHAT DO I KNOW. THANKS AGIN FOR YOUR REPLY.

i feed my dogs good natural balanced diet, combination of a dried food with no carbs at all in 70% meat n fats 30% fruit and veg, with raw meat that varies depending on what i have venison, rabbit, tripe, chicken, pheasent etc, keep them well exercised by walking and cycling with them, also do training work with retrieves then come season their raring to go, they are looking good at preasent good shine to the coat and nicely toned on legs and back, once they've had a few runs when season begins they'll be looking grand

interesting read on supplements and different types of muscles thank you

Why no carbs?
carbs will only make the dog burn out quicker a dog will thrive on a diet of meats and fats i use chicken rabbit beef with a cupful of a high protein high fat kibble

Why will carbs cause quick burn out? Does your kibble contain carbs.
