Double Standards

Recommended Posts

Double standards from the DCS /Government and others on the new bill .They put forward the reason for banning hunting with dog against deer and used the Welfare of animals taken up the Deer Commission Scotland they this is what they go by and it is still on there site. Please read and let me know if you think taking away seasons shooting them at night lamps and night vision driving the with vehicles etc would cause any concern with this next section if so they will be going against the information they used to ban other types of hunting.

WELFARE OF ANIMALS

Freedom from Hunger and Thirst, Freedom from Discomfort, Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease, Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour, Freedom from Fear and Distress (2)

‘the state of the individual animal in relation to its environment, in particular its response to both pleasant and unpleasant stimuli. Animal welfare thus encompasses an animal’s health and general physical condition, its psychological state, its biological fitness and its ability to cope with the environment in which it finds itself’.(3)

‘Welfare is a characteristic or state of the animal. While “welfare†has no units of measurement it is possible to notionally place an animal on a welfare scale;

Below is a comment by the Association of Deer Management Groups (ADMG)

READ THE LAST PARAGRAPH

They have written to the Minister for Environment questioning whether the timing

of a whole scale review of the Act is prudent, given the ongoing merger of Scottish Natural Heritage and DCS.

The ADMG is also opposed to any change in the current close season structure for

male animals on the basis of welfare and economic grounds.

One should remember that prior to the early 1960s there was no close season for any deer species and that two of the main reasons close seasons were introduced were to protect welfare of animals and to afford protection against over culling as numbers had fallen to levels which caused concern.

Hi mate ,the reform bill is nothing whatsoever to do with deer welfare or management ,its all about squeezing cash out of stalkers and it is a last ditch attempt by DCS to raise some revenue to fill the coffers of The Scottish National Herratige ........
